Perth, WA and Greer, SC -June 8th, 2010-  Alexium International Group Limited (“Alexium”) (ASX: AJX) is pleased to announce that it has successfully commissioned its first “RST” continuous reel to reel textile finishing unit. This development follows on from the recent announcement in March 2010 of successful low rate initial testing of the RST technology by the US Air Force Research Laboratories Florida (“AFRL”) and relates to textile coating applications of the RST platform technology.

The commissioning of the unit took place at North Carolina State University, (NCSU) Raleigh, NC with technical assistance and support provided by the College of Textiles Dyeing and Finishing Laboratory at NCSU and representatives from AFRL.

“This is another critical milestone for Alexium as it moves rapidly towards full commercialisation of its RST technology, beginning with the textile industry” stated Alexium’s Chief Executive Steve Ribich. “The technical advantages of the “RST” process are now gaining acceptance by the textile industry and the commissioning of the first reel to reel unit it has also demonstrated the significant energy, financial and environmental advantages that may be achieved using the RST technology.”

The commissioning process confirmed that the Alexium, RST coatings process requires only minimal power, which is in stark contrast with the relatively energy intensive treatments typically in use within the textile industry.

Alexium is now scheduling a roll out programme of unique textile finishing treatments using the RST process. These textiles are usually supplied by prospective licensees which have requested finishes for their own specific end-use markets. Validation testing is undertaken at their own facilities.

Alexium is also addressing potential technical enhancements revealed during commissioning. Design improvements are being engineered which address the ease of operation and maintenance for future production units.

It is expected that the reel to reel unit will shortly be relocated to Alexium’s facility in Greer, South Carolina. Mr Ribich added “We have seen a dramatic increase in enquiries since we announced our move to Greer, and it was essential that we quickly establish the capacity to treat commercial quantities of textiles and to demonstrate a full-scale production process to prospective commercial partners.”
