NOTICE FROM US DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY REGARDING PROPOSED UIPE TENDER
Panther Suit Joint Tender by Tennier Industries, Stedfast Inc and Alexium
Perth, WA and Greer, SC -December 23rd, 2011- Alexium International Group Limited (“Alexium”) (ASX: AJX) (AX: AJX) oday announced that it has received notice from the Department of the Army, Natick Contracting Division (ACD) regarding the Uniform Integrated Protection Ensemble – Increment 1 (UIPE I1) proposal. The ACD has completed its initial evaluation of the Panther Suit Joint Tender Proposal (Joint Proposal), submitted via Tennier Industries the prime contractor and garment manufacturer, and decided not to shortlist the Joint Proposal for the next stage. The primary reason appears to be the technical performance of an integrated carbon layer, which is separate to Alexium’s Cleanshell and not produced by Alexium.
The ACD reviewers noted that the garments being tested had higher than acceptable vapor penetration of certain chemical warfare agents (CWAs). The carbon layer that acts as the protective layer against CWA vapor was not provided by Alexium. Alexium’s Reactive Surface Technology (RST) provides repellency against oil, water, and liquid chemical agents.
Alexium’s focus remains treating outer shell layers to repel liquid agents and contaminants and including neutralizing agents in its treatments. Whilst this ACD decision on the UIPE Joint Tender impacts potential near-term revenues from Chem/Bio products, Alexium remains committed to chemical/biological treatments for military, other chemical/biological protection opportunities with the US Department of Defence, Police, First Responders and Fire and Emergency services which remain as opportunities for Alexium.
Alexium’s next generation Chem/bio repellency treatment is currently being evaluated at the Army’s Natick Soldier Systems Center and Alexium expects to enter other US Department of Defense tenders as proposals are invited.
Tennier Industries, the primary contractor, have requested a full debriefing and test data package from the ACD to understand the shortcomings of the third party carbon layer and any other aspects of this tender that might be addressed for future tenders.
Alexium is close to commercializing its products in:
1. Eco-friendly Flame Resistant (FR) Synthetic Fabrics;
2. Repellency treatments for Ballistic Fabrics;
3. Composite Fabric Treatments; and
4. Chem-Bio Treatments for Defense Applications
Alexium expects to have its American Depositary Receipts quoted on the OTC QX stock exchange, under the symbol “AXXIY” in the next few weeks, with Merriman Capital Inc appointed as Principal American Liaison (PAL) for the listing. FINRA Section 211 approval has been received.
